Landscaping Update – May 2015

It has been one year since we moved into our home (wow, I honestly cannot believe it).

It feels like yesterday when I was packing bags and getting the kids in the back seat of the minivan ready to leave our old house in California. Moving to New Jersey was hard at first but we have been slowly adjusting. One of the things that we decided to do in order to make the move easier for me was to mimic our old backyard in our new backyard.

This might sound a little silly but I have found that the thing I miss most about California wasn’t In and Out Burger or even the amazing weather, it was being able to sit on our back deck and watch the sun set. Our new home has a great view but the back yard definitely needed some work.

For the past three months we have been working with some amazing companies to bring our yard together. The first thing we did was completely redesign our garden all around the house to match our previous garden. We now have both a regular garden and herb garden filled with thyme, rosemary, and lavender (my favorite).

One of the bad things about our neighborhood is the pesky deer! They come in and eat nearly everything we plant. We tried some crazy, non-harmful ways of keeping them out but decided the best way was to invest in a tall fence. I was totally against having a fence installed at first because it didn’t match our previous yard. However, I was thoroughly convinced after speaking with the fence company we chose (Reynolds Fence). After sitting down with us for thirty minutes the owner walked us through how a tell vinyl fence was the best option for us, since we wanted something that looked good too. Within about three weeks of talking we had the fence up and the deer out.

Now that we have a garden and fence, the only thing left to match the old house is a burnt orange (my favorite color) deck. Stay tuned for more updates!
